Hello TV Addicts! Here's our weekly place to discuss the non-recapped shows. See you in the comments!
Note: Game of Thrones discussions will be split into a separate post!
Hello TV Addicts! This is Mike V. of the Lost Addicts Blog among others. I’ve mostly stopped writing recaps regularly, but please join our discussion posts for all things TV, occasional recaps (Hello There Obi-Wan!) and search the archives for Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Fringe and several other shows over the years!

Madmen--finally, a good ep. So much went on. Sad for Michael. It would be so funny if Betty ran for office. She'd probably win.
Richard
Blacklist--I'm beginning to think that Red will be taken captive somehow. Something has to be different next year. Maybe even protective custody kind of. But, Berlin looks to be a long term threat.
Richard
Well, one out of two isn't bad--lol. Berlin will be a long term threat. So much about this show I like. Loosing Meera was not surprising but Cooper living was a bit of a surprise. Tom living was not surprising either, since Liz didn't shoot him, but seriously how do you survive that many shots to the gut. Which leads to the biggest gripe I have with the ep. Tom's a total BA, unbelievable fighting skills and gets shot by a profiler with little self defense training. A bad hard to swallow scene. There is obviously something between those two.
So, we still don't know if REd is Liz's Dad. I don't think we'll know that for a while--multiple seasons? We know REd is the one who took Liz to Sam and we now know he has what looks like burn scars.
It seems like Liz is somehow connected through the stewmaker to the photo that Red has of the girl? And that girl is likely the same girl as Berlin's daughter. It seems that we know why Berlin wants to kill Red and it's about that girl in the photo. I may need to rewatch that ep.
OK, since Fitch is so good at finding people, will he help them find Berlin? This could be a big plot hole depending on how handled.
Richard
Wow - they really went to town cancelling shows this year. LOL
Most not surprising. I was 2 weeks behind on Revolution - don't know if I'll bother to watch now. I was liking FWBL though. I felt that Intelligence and Almost Human could have found their footing with another season - oh well. Guess I'll not bother to finish Crisis either.
Blacklist - surprised me in a few ways - especially Cooper. Be back later with more.
REvolution, just googled this after reading MJ
http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/blog/creative/2014/05/austins-film-industry-takes-a-hit-as-nbcs.html
Will watch finale with some sadness this year. They really screwed up with Charlie the first season. I quit watching during the first season. If Mike hadn't been recapping I wouldn't have likely watched this year to start off. You're only new once and have that kind of first rollout period to attract new viewers. We had some people over last week for dinner and so they stayed and we watched REvolution, they all commented on it being a really good show/well done. But hadn't seen it before, didn't know about it.
Intelligence cancelled, not surprising but it too was getting better.
I would not want my kids to go into the TV/entertainment biz. Just not that much money for almost all but a few. CNN supposedly has as low as 250,000 viewers during primetime. Can't make a living doing that.
Richard
I posted a few links on last week's posts about the cancellations. It sucks but really no surprises on what got the axe. Community was most shocking to me because I thought they'd give the fans a shortened 6th season to honor the #sixseasonsandamovie campaign. They would know there wouldn't be a demand for a 7th season. Suck it up and do one more! Lol Netflix or Hulu could save the day with that one.
I have a discussion post going up weds for rev but I'll still try to write something for the finale.
The funny thing with intelligence is the ratings would be pretty good for any other network but CBS is still dominant. Still both that and almost human failed to grab me.
Agree with Richard, you gotta build an audience out of the gate with these shows or you're screwed. I was shocked revolution got renewed in the first place. But it did turn into a decent show.
Blacklist - agree Richard - show has to change. I've always had issue with the way the FBI allowed Red to
consistently profit from getting them to catch people - and now they know for a fact he was using them
for his own purposes. So surely that will end. So what - he's her dad biologically but when he says he's not
her dad he means metaphorically since he never lies to her ? Ugh ! I was afraid of this. So predictable - and
this show is better then that. I mean - if dad is 'dead' then why would knowing his identity put her in
harms way ? They could be fooling us - his burned back could be a red herring (no pun intended) but it does look like they are making him her father. And was any one surprised that the 'guard' in the hospital was
Berlin ? Though story of the daughters body parts being sent to him was nasty - and how he escaped that
prison too.
Revolution - I might just watch for the heck of it. I also was surprised it got S2 at all.
Still can't believe Dome is coming back. I'll probably look at it but feel like I'll dump it.
Castle - Leslie I haven't seent he finale yet but finally watched the last 2 weeks worth. They finally closed out the story with her mom ! That surprised me.
CSI - didn't realize the show with the cyber crime and Patricia Arquette is actually going to be on next year. Thought she was just doing a guest star kinda thing.
Continuum--I quit watching after last ep. It's just too much to keep up with the show now as there seems to be little reward for investment???
Blacklist--Red definitely took Liz to Sam. I don't think scars tell us much more than we already knew, really. I mean we assumed he took her from the burning house to Sam.
The whole Dad or not stuff is getting long in the tooth given that this is an FBI agent. There are at least 2 things she could do to find out info.
1. REd has a known documented past in Navy, etc. Him being married and having kids before he went underground is all public info.
2. SEriously, in 2014 DNA paternity testing is pretty easy/quick. She could get his DNA anytime and test.
Assuming show runners know we know this--lol. Why isn't this addressed on the show?
I think Berlin has some ties to Liz or Red somehow--kind of obvious, huh. Recall that Tom said he was sent to protect Liz from Red.
Richard
Continuum - i quite a few weeks ago ;-D
Blacklist - agree that over the whole daddy thing, and the paternity testing. I guess what all the buzz is is that since his back is burned and its been stated that Dad died saving her from the fire... so now everyone thinks he was her father and got the burns saving her. To me it's the least interesting part of the show. LOL Sure - I wanna know why he's so interested in her - but not the way they are doing it.
MJ, agree, yea the scars were shocking at first but after I thought about it, it didn't really confirm anything we didn't already know and just seemed to add to the drag of this storyline. And agree on wanting to know why he's interested in her.
Shield--not a bad ep, maybe a really good ep. There were a few things I didn't like structurally in the ep setting up things for going forward, but I am willing to wait and see how things develop. Garrett is gone, but in so many ways he was the best actor they had--lol. Fury came back to basically tell us he's done with Shield, disappointing. The whole inherently good vs inherently evil thing has me cautious about next year--mostly because these shows are written by people who believe in a person's ability to define themselves and in inherent goodness. So, that could become very predictable and boring.
Richard
CBS up fronts are happening right now. No article yet but how I met your dad is dead. The pilot wasn't working and bays and Thomas didn't want to redo it. Oh well! Probably for the best.
This has a sentence about it with the CBS fall lineup. Bbt to Mondays until football is over. http://tvline.com/2014/05/14/cbs-fall-tv-lineup-2014-the-big-bang-theory-monday/
BBT and Blue Bloods are all that I plan to watch. I will only check on a couple of the new shows. Maybe NFL--lol.
I hadn't heard or Scorpion yet.
There's really not that much on CBS I watch today either.
I sure hope some new AMC show is good????
Richard
Abc and fox have announced their schedules too. Haven't seen anything noteworthy yet. Maybe Gotham on fox. Sounds like they're taking the right approach to it which interests me.
AMC has been struggling with new ideas since coming out strong with mad men breaking bad and walking dead. Now there are spinoffs in the works for breaking bad and walking dead. FX has had some really good stuff coming out as had Netflix. I'd probably count on them before amc at this point! Lol
Btw here's more info on himyd http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/05/14/how-i-met-your-mother-spinoff-didnt-work-out/
Himyd - agree - probably for the best. I would have looked at it - but expected not to like it
They killed the Supernatural spinoff too.
Shield - I liked the finale. They got me ! When Garrett got up and started becoming machinized I was like 'how predictable'! Then Coulsen blew him away. Awesome. We all knew Fitz and Simmones would live of course. Mae/Ward fight was fun.
AMC - I thought they had some new stuff coming - but not sure. I haven't really looked at the schedules as they will all be tweaked by September. But I did hear that Blacklist would be up against Scandal part of the year.
Already heard that Matthew Perry's re-do of the Odd Couple is in trouble. The two female costars have left the show already. Don't even know why they think this will be a good idea to re-do that show. And I don't see Perry as the slobby one - think he'd be better prissy one.
Shield - Loved taht Fury likened Coulsen to an Avenger. And that the guy from the other secret base that Ward killed was in the new secret base. I like the actor. And Coulsen drawing that stuff that Garrett was drawing - looked like a circuit board to me - was creepy. But ycuk on the drippy guy in the end. Sad about Mike/Deathlok - watching his son and having to walk away.
There is some irony in that high production cost shows(usually good shows) have much higher risk in today's media landscape and yet are sought after by viewers.
Yea, I like that actor playing Eric's brother too. I laughed when he said that he'd get them lanyards.
I saw something about Gotham a few days ago, will likely check it out.
Richard
Yeah they are flooding tv with same programming again. Between all zombie/returned dead we talked about last week and now super hero - Arrow, Flash, Shield, Gotham, and I heard a Major Carter coming. Always over kill anything that is new and fresh.
In gotham's defense it has more in common with smallville than agents of shield. But yeah comic book movies are the craze so it has moved even moreso to tv now too. Lol agent carter is a real thing as you mentioned. Just confirming. Lol
True about Gotham - cause it's about Bruce Wayne and not Batman I think I read
Any one watch House of Cards ? Just getting around to starting Season 2 - holy cow on that death in the first episode !!!
Yeah it's about Bruce and the origin of the villains. There's an interview on ew that's really good about it. Ill find it when I'm home and near a computer.
House of cards is on the summer watch list. Lol
