TV Discussion: Summer 2014 Part 1

Hello fellow TV Addicts!  This is our Summer Discussion Thread to discuss all TV.  No recaps for the foreseeable future so let's just add comments here until it gets too big.  Then I'll post another one!  See you in the comments!

NOTE: We're onto PAGE 2 of comments now!  Let me know if you want me to post a new thread!

Game of Thrones: Season 4 Episode 10 - The Children

Hello fellow Westerosians, Essosians, Children of the Forest and all other creatures north of the Realm!  Welcome to our season 4 finale coverage of Game of Thrones!  WOW, that is how you end a fantastic TV season!  Of course, with the finale of A Storm of Swords, this season practically wrote itself.  They captured a lot of the essence of those final pages of the book in this episode, they captured some new for television encounters, but they left out a couple things that I was pretty surprised about.  The fact that they were left out is starting to give me an idea of storylines they may cut out of the show all together due to trying to compress the next 2 books into possibly 1 season.  Rumor has it that the show will only go 7 or 8 seasons regardless of the status of the final 2 (or more) books on the way.  So, things need to be cut. Characters, storylines, etc...  Anyway, we can debate that a little bit in the recap and more in the comments.  But until then, let's get this show on the road!

Spoiler Disclaimer:  I have read all 5 books of A Song of Ice and Fire.  I am diligent in trying not to spoil the TV Only Viewers.  I will note all spoilers with a Spoiler Warning, and will most likely save them for the comments of this thread.  I do, however, like to compare events from the book with events that resemble the books on the show.  This could be difficult in this recap because certain things were cut out of key events that I'm not sure if they plan to cover them!   I'll be careful.  Let's go!

Game of Thrones: Season 4 Episode 9 - The Watchers on the Wall

Hello fellow Westerosians and men of the Night's Watch!  Game of Thrones is well known for pulling out all of the stops in their 9th episodes.  Season 1, we lost our protagonist Ned Stark.  Season 2, Neil Marshall came in and directed the hell out of the Battle of Blackwater.  Season 3, TV fans were introduced to the Red Wedding.  This season is capping off the most intense book in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire and has been flooded with crazy episodes and moments.  But alas, they may have topped Blackwater with this episode and they gave us The Battle at Castle Black (directed by Marshall again)!  It was, in short, amazingly produced with a TV sized budget.  Now, the Night's Watch/North story is not necessarily the most interesting storyline for fans of the show but it's incredibly important for where this story is headed.  And trust me, if you're still looking for twists and turns and a "9th episode" feel for this season you may get a few of them in the finale!  I've been saying for a couple years now that book 3 of the series was jammed packed with plot developments and was an amazing read.  Anyway, I can keep rambling on here or get into the recap of this battle!

My note on spoilers is always the same.  I don't intentionally seek to spoil non-book readers (granted, teases like I did above are hard to contain).  If I am going to write something spoilery, I will save it for the comments and note it with a huge spoiler warning.  That said, if a plot does happen on the show that resembles something from the book, I do like to compare that in my write-up.  Now that we have that out of the way, let's dive in!

TV Discussion: Week of 6/8/2014 - 6/14/2014

Hello TV Addicts! This is our weekly place to discuss all non-recapped shows. Game of Thrones will have its own discussion area/mini recap. After that show ends, I'll probably just post a Summer Discussion thread. See you in the comments!

Game of Thrones: Season 4 Episode 8 - The Mountain and The Viper

Hello fellow Westerosians and welcome back to the Game of Thrones!  THAT. WAS. AWESOME!  The whole episode was fantastic, but the Trial By Combat exceeded my expectations!  It certainly is difficult to withhold information like that for Non-Book Readers (I'm told the term across the interwebs is "The Unsullied"), but totally worth it when you get to experience it for the first time.   And of course book readers get to see these things they imagined in their heads come to life.  Game of Thrones has a good batting average of not disappointing in my opinion.   Anyway, we're getting ahead of ourselves.  Let's dive into the quick recap!

SPOILER ADVISORY: As always, I'm always very protective for the "Unsullied" non-book readers and only speak of book plots when the events occur in the TV Show.  I like to speak to differences between the show and book but I will never intentionally spoil upcoming plots.  If I do, the spoiler warnings will be clearly labeled.

TV Discusion: Week of 6/1/2014 - 6/7/2014

Hello TV Addicts!  This is our weekly place to discuss all non-recapped shows.  Game of Thrones will have its own discussion area/mini recap.  After that show ends, I'll probably just post a Summer Discussion thread.  See you in the comments!
