Game of Thrones: Season 5 Episode 7 - The Gift (Discussion)

Hello friends and Happy Memorial Day!  Like most Americans, I took advantage of the holiday weekend and spent time with family and friends.  Unfortunately, I do not have time to do a full recap for this episode.  But, I definitely think we'll have stuff to discuss in the comments at some point.  So, feel free to dive right in and add your thoughts!

I mentioned this on the last recap, but I will also be out of town next weekend and it's not looking likely for a recap  next week either.  But, be assured that I will plan on getting something written for the final 2 episodes of the season!

Sorry for the bad timing and I thank you for understanding.  See you in the comments!

UPDATE: I've added my thoughts on the episode in the first 2 comments.

Game of Thrones: Season 5 Episode 6 - Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken

Hello all and welcome back to our Game of Thrones discussion.  A discussion each week becoming more and more about a television show and less and less about a book series the show was based on!  Yes, I exaggerate.  But, the media and some hardcore fans would make you think that is the case.  This week included a scene that book fans were worried was going to happen.  We'll discuss it when we get there.  While it is a little shocking due to the characters involved, it still does seem to me that the showrunners are being completely faithful to the books and that this is still one of the best adaptations on television.  Last night's episode as a whole was fantastic yet again and directly included some of the best highlights from George R. R. Martin's latest 2 books (I know using the word "latest" is pretty comical).  Let's dive right into the recap.

Spoiler Disclaimer:  I've read the books and will discuss book vs. show if the show covers the plot.  If I ever bring up a clear cut spoiler in the recap it will be indicated as so.  Otherwise, I usually save them for the comments and will clearly indicate my comments as "SPOILER" or "BOOK DISCUSSION" and encourage anyone else to do the same!

Game of Thrones: Season 5 Episode 5 - Kill the Boy

Hello all and welcome back to our Game of Thrones Season 5 coverage!  We continue to mix in a little bit of the book with brand new territory for the show.  And it continues to be interesting to me!  There are plenty of different opinions floating around the world with TV Only Viewers and Book Readers on the season.  I've mentioned various times that I'm not a book purist by any means, especially when it comes to the most recent 2 books which we're covering now.  I think the show runners are doing their best to be faithful to George R. R. Martin's work, while making the series as a whole still consumable for television audiences.  They're certainly keeping us on our toes and I'm interested to see where they go.

I'll still keep our standard disclaimer here that I have read all of the Song of Ice and Fire books that are currently released.  I will only compare to the books when it's clear that we've covered it on the show or will not be covering it.  In the comments, any book spoilers/speculation should be noted as such before commenting.

With that, let's dive in!

Game of Thrones: Season 5 Episode 4 - Sons of the Harpy

Hello fellow Game of Thrones fans.  What a crazy episode.  Some pretty significant changes from George R.R. Martin's Bible, but they also mixed in some REALLY IMPORTANT nuggets that book fans have been waiting for since season 1!  So, all in all, this was a fantastic episode of the show.  I'm really loving this season, as I do every year.  But, I think the consolidation of these 2 books is really liberating the writers to take some interesting chances.  They're paying off for the most part.  Maybe not everything but we'll get to that.

Weekly Spoiler Warning - Yes, I've read the books but I'm very careful on what I reveal.  If the show covers plot covered in the books, I'll discuss it and the differences.  If it's pretty clear the show will NOT cover something from the books, I may discuss that as well.  In the comments section everyone is very careful to label SPOILERS/BOOK DISCUSSION before posting about future book topics.  This disclaimer probably won't be needed next season, but we'll see if GRRM gets that 6th book out!

In the meantime, let's dive in!
