TV Discussion: Summer of 2016

Hello everyone.  This is our regular place to discuss non-recapped shows.  For the summer I usually just put one post up.  If the comments get high, I will start another one.  See you in the comments!

Still swamped. Worked thru lunch. Jotted a few comments though

Silicon Valley - finally finished this too.

Cobie Smolders - heard she's going to be on Netlix comedy Friends from College.

Robot - caught up finally. LOL . Love all the weird 80's like vibes they are using. And the whole car ride with mom and dad - with Tyrell in the trunk. And Alf ! LOL Is this washington Twp in NJ ? Did we know that ? I don't think I did. So I guess the diner/Seinfeld guy was not a hallucination. Should have realized they wouldn't have pulled that twice. And the rumors were close - he is in prison. Though don't know why yet. So DB Wong is some prominent chinese minister of security? That made no sense to me - he spends alot of time state side and that does't add up then.

Mike V. said...

Robot - was not working today so will comment more tomorrow. If you do a control - f on "prison" you'll see I brought it up weeks ago that it was a rumor. I actually heard that one before the psych ward. But I didn't buy it. Lol but even though people figure out these twists they are still well executed when we find out for real. I'll comment more later.

MJ said...

Robot - Rays logic made no sense. He beats the snot out of Elliot for looking and seeing what the business is. Then lets him back in the system - knowng Elliot would some how end it. So why beat the snot out of him to begin with ?? So - if tyrell is dead then who is calling his wife and sending expensive rattles ? And Ray - is he in the prison too ? Where did the take down of his company occur ? Loved the Bulls balls dropping into the senate - but really? How was that done ? LOL

FTWD - I watcvhed Talking Dead and get what they were saying about Mexico feeling differently about their dead - but come on. Probably why I have problems liking Nick is that I think he's an idiot. LOL I get walking with a herd if you have to - to get thru them or escape. I don't get his need to keep saying they are still people and should not be feared or killed. And I don't get the parallel they keep drawing to him being an addict and being able to be self-reliable. Cause addicts aren't really self reliant - they just accept suffering in my opinion. Interesting that we finally learn why Maddy was no longer with the kids dad - he's dead. Wonder why they waited to tell us that ?

Mike V. said...

Robot - I didn't realize they were in Washington Township, NJ. lol I guess that's not too unrealistic for a show based in New York.

So, was there a knock on Elliot's door at the end of last season that we didn't see who it was? I can't remember..but heard it on a podcast this morning. Most are saying it was probably the police. So he could be doing time for the hack, for killing tyrell (do we think he's really dead?) or I guess something else?

I'm sure the Ray stuff doesn't make sense yet because we don't know what his deal is in the prison system. Perhaps he's the one that might not be real.

How was the bull's balls scene done like special effects-wise or how could they have possibly gotten away with it? lol I'm guessing you mean the latter and I have no idea!!

FTWD - Still never finished the first half of season 2. Not sure we will!

Supergirl - So restarted from the beginning. I think I'm on the 4th episode (only 8 recorded right now). Nothing to report yet. Decent show...I enjoyed when I watched before just ran out of time! lol

MJ said...

Supergirl - yeah - it's just good escapist fun really.

Robot - yes latter on bulls balls. LOL Not like you can fly over these building in DC - even with drones. I wondering if Wash TWP NJ since they were on NJ roads during the car trip that would have left from Wash twp. I dunno

I'm ready for some fall tv. Mean to watch Narcos on Netflix but never did. Oh well. Though not sure I am excited about all the re-dos and re-boots this year - but we shall see.

Mike V. said...

Robot - Gotcha on the roads. I didn't even observe that! Could be?? I'm sure it's google-able!

Fall TV - Yeah...I don't really know how many new shows I'll be getting on board with. Especially with all the reboots. I'm interested in Timeless (NBC), Westworld (HBO) ...they advertised another show on NBC during the Olympics a lot with Milo V and my wife wants to watch. And of course NBC is hyping up Timeless and that show as LOST replacements. lol never a good sign!

I've been enjoying having a pretty relaxed schedule around out house. No rush to watch anything. Tonight's the first night in a few weeks where my wife could opt to return to Game of Thrones. Something tells me those 57 remaining episodes won't be watched by next summer. But we'll see!

Star Trek original pilot rebroadcast
http://metv.com/stories/svengoolie-presents-the-original-star-trek-pilot-the-cage-on-september-10

Plus some interesting info.

Richard

MJ said...

Fall TV - yeah Timeless and another time traveling show too. Also looking at Westworld. HBO has a couple of half hour comedies - one with Sarah Jane Parker - will look at them. Fox has The Exorcist - which my husband will want to look at as well as SyFy's Van Helsing.

Mike V. said...

Fall TV - Also gonna check out the new Kiefer show on ABC: Designated Survivor. I like the concept..not sure how it will pan out for a full series, but I'm game for a new Kiefer show!

Trek - I remember them airing The Cage several years back (very several...maybe it was for the 30th anniversary). Interesting about the 2 pilots. I feel like I knew that considering I knew Pike was the original captain and they worked that into the new movies.

Mike V. said...

Supergirl - All caught up on what has aired on CW so far (I think 8 episodes). Cat just figured out that Kara is supergirl. Not sure if she'll try to convince her otherwise. It's confirmed that Hank is Martian Man Hunter (but I already knew that lol). Right now it's on a cliffhanger between SG and Non at Can't Hardly Wait/Twilight dude/Peter Facinelli's office. lol

Robot - Ugh...no Elliot this episode! But it was still really good. Daphne flat out killin 1, maybe 2 people. Crazy stuff!! Looked like the one guy might be working for BD Wong?? I saw some Chinese lettering in some messages. And Portia Doubleday (blank on her character name right now) getting all seductive with the dude from Desperate Housewives/Mad Men. lol I'm so good with names!!

Just a heads up (in case anyone cares)...I'll be on vacation next week so I'm sure my comments will be more limited! :) When I get back I'll have 4 more Supergirls a Mr. Robot and 2 Strains to watch. (apparently we're still going to try to watch the conclusion of Night Of if possible lol)

MJ said...

Fall - yes - I also want to check out Designated Survivor

Robot - didn't watch last night. But meant to comment from your prior thoughts - I don't think he is in prison for the hack - FBI does not seem to know about him. Also - Tyrell's death might make sense - but since the wife thinks he is alive ? And supposedly Elliot stated to us that he is now telling us the truth and that all we saw really did happen - so that means Tyrell is dead. I dunno know.

Supergirl - I totally freaked when Cat found out ! LOL

vacation - enjoy !

Mike V. said...

Robot (last week) - Yeah...seems like it's some other misdemeanor. Maybe it's from his vigilante night job he had for a couple episodes last year. Didn't he take someone's dog? Probably provided a good cover for him too with the fallout from the hack. Tyrell takes the fall and he's in prison for something else. (yeah he's probably dead...but not absent from the show at least. He's made a couple appearances. I'm sure they'll continue at least this year)

Vacation - Thanks!

MJ said...

Star trek - BBC America is airing - in HD - the original series uncut. Starts on 9/8. Just FYI

Mike V. said...

Trek - Nice. I think it's on Netflix too isn't it? Not sure about uncut and HD but I'd just assume so.

I see Shatner mentioned he's not ruling out having Kirk's death "unwritten" to somehow show up in the new series. lol Of course, depending what timeline it is...it could be the later version of the Chris Pine Kirk.

Speaking of...I mean, I know the math works but I can't believe Shatner is 85!

MJ said...

I had no idea he was that old ! LOL He has some new show coming out - I have no plan to watch it but it's him, Henry Winkler, Terry Bradshaw and some comic traveling to new places and trying cuisine and mixing with locals. They will put anything on tv now ! LOL

Mike V. said...

Seriously...I joked earlier in this thread that WE (i.e. the people of tv addicts blog) could come up with a concept and probably get funding on some channel/streaming service. Whether people would watch is another story! lol

Have a great weekend and week everyone! I'll check in when I can. VACATION TIME!

Jason B. said...

FTWD - I remember learning during season 1 that the Clark father had died. However, I guess it could have been through an interview or something, instead of from the actual show. I had assumed that he died from a drug overdose or something though, I was surprised to find out that it was a car accident. Although tonight's episode suggested that wasn't so much an "accident," rather suicide, but Madison never told her kids that. I think it would be cool to see him in a flashback sometime, I heard that they will have flashbacks for Ophelia in an upcoming episode this season and I think that they plan to continue with them.

MJ said...

FTWD - I could not quite tell if she was hinting that the car accident was suicide or if it was accidental due to drunk driving. Either way i guess the point is that she did not tell the kids the whole story. These people in Mexico are just Cray Cray. LOL

Caught part of Blade 2 the other day and realized that Norman Reedus was in it. Never picked up on that before.

Final season of Grimm

https://tvline.com/2016/08/29/grimm-cancelled-no-season-7-nbc/

MJ said...

Grimm - yeah - just read about that this am. At least they can end it well. Knew already that it was only getting half a season this year - supposedly due to NBC's crowded schedule but I'd wondered if it was ending.

Robot - caught up now. Like how Darlene is telling her people it's an accident that the chick is dead ! Loved the leaked conference call.

Anonymous said...

Grimm--I really hate to see it go. But, without some sort of new story I could see where it needs to end. Kind of like GoT. I am not aware yet of any new shows that I like btw. So, my universe of shows is decreasing--lol.

But, I just read more of the posts above and found these I might like--Timeless (NBC), Westworld (HBO) Thanks.

I always liked the Pike character. I think it's been in a couple of movies and about 3 or so episodes of the original. I could see Shatner as the retired Kirk or Pike coming back to save the day.

New Harry Potter movies it appears.
http://io9.gizmodo.com/reports-wb-wants-to-make-a-harry-potter-and-the-cursed-1785958905

First, they can't help themselves, it has to be a move and 2nd, not just 1 movie, but a trilogy--lol

It reminds me of the song "money"

Richard

Mike V. said...

Potter - I read something too. Obviously they'd have to try. But having read the thing I have no idea how they'd make a movie of it. It lends itself well to the play. And based on some plot elements that I don't want to spoil it would be tough to keep continuity with the original films. But yes where there's money to print they'll try to find a way.

Also the play sets up an opportunity to expand the universe without Harry being the center focus so there is a chance they could explore beyond the play's plot too. Rowling said she was done with "Harry's" story not he wizarding world.

MJ said...

Potter - jeez ! I'm done with them. LOL

Super vs Batman - Saw it this week. Borrowed the DVD from my nephew. He told me the theater version did not make sense with Wonder Woman so I should watch the extended one on the disc. 3 hours long ! LOL It was ok - pretty much what I expected. Don't know what he meant by WW as now I have only seen the extended. Very surprised to see that Maggie and Negan from TWD were the Waynes !! Though they had her mostly on camera I know Papa Winchester's voice any where ! ;-P I know I kept wondering how they could have 2 'good guys' fighting each other - but it wasn't bad at all.

Night of - still have not finished. LOL But nice 4 day weekend coming - I'll finish that and a few other things up.

Robot - not seen this week.

Sex/Drugs - been taping this season but not yet watched. Think the finale was last night

Mike V. said...

potter - I get it (being finished! lol). But, I also get Rowling wanting to continue expanding the world. She finished the Potter story, but it's not like her brain turns off. It's similar to Tolkien who wrote his stories but then wrote all of these appendices with the information that helped create and expand his world. I don't think Rowling will ever just flat out stop writing about the wizarding world. It's too valuable a property and her brain is just too immersed in it. I think it's part money, but part what keeps her engine going. lol

Super v Batman - Somehow I think I enjoyed the theatrical version better than the uncut. I think it was just too long. But regardless, I still thought the movie was a mess. lol It had its moments. One being Maggie and Negan in the opening! lol The motive of why they fought each other was interesting, but most felt it wasn't earned. And then the reason they stopped fighting was executed in a way that made many fans cringe...."our mothers have the same name!!!" lol Yes, it was symbolic in showing bruce that Clark was raised as a human and has innate human values, but it didn't come off that way. It was fine...but compared to Marvel, DC has a long road ahead of them to catch up. Did you see Suicide Squad yet?

Night Of - We finished on vacation last week. pretty decent closing. Didn't see the hung jury coming. And who would've thunk that the nephew on JOEY (Friends spinoff) would be the guy that did it! lol

Robot - All caught up. I totally called the crime Elliot served time for. But he got out early due to the Dark Army. Good episode...not much to comment on right now though.

Sex/Drugs - I never finished season 1 and had to make room on my TiVo so I deleted them. :( I enjoyed what I watched though!

Supergirl - 4 more episodes recorded while I was gone. I watched 1 Martian Man hunter revealed his secret to Kara and helped prove to Cat that she wasn't supergirl. lol

Strain - Didn't start this season yet but have 2 episodes waiting for me!

Winds of winter - possibly March 2017 release!

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/09/06/george-rr-martin-winds-winter-date-rumor

Mike V. said...

Winds of Winter - Obviously the publisher has come out and dismissed the rumor. It'll be out when it's out!

Atlanta - Looked into this FX show last night. Donald Glover (from Community fame) created it. Half hour show, but wouldn't necessarily call it a comedy. Had funny moments but it was a pretty realistic view at life in Atlanta. It takes place in the hip hop world but Glover's character is our way into the world and not entirely involved in the beginning. Critics have been raving about it. I set TiVo last minute and enjoyed the 1st 2 eps. We'll see how it develops!

Supergirl - still plowing ahead. Cat and her son reunited thanks to Kara.

Anonymous said...

WoW--wow, March 2017, almost another year away. BUT before S7. I'm betting it slips to 2nd qtr but before S7. Honestly at this point I just hope it comes out.

Been catching up on all the Star Trek 50th anniversary stuff. Going to buy the series on blu ray.

Suits--Mike finally got out. Honestly I've been FF through the prison stuff.

Richard

Mike V. said...

Winds of Winter - Well that's exaggerating a little. It would be a little more than half of a year away. But it was already debunked. Someone in the comments posted (his profile picture was him with GRRM) and he said he met him at a conversion and GRRM said his publishers wanted it done by march but he kinda laughed it off....but suggested it might be close to then. I don't know how much we trust a fan though. lol

Somewhere I read that around March would be the same length of time between FEAST and DANCE. So once it's past that it will be the longest gap of time between books.

Star Trek - I think it's all still available on Netflix so I could just stream it. I did recently get the original series movies 1-6 on my Vudu account through disc to digital. I have eps 2-4 on bluray as part of a "trilogy package" and when I popped the disck in my computer it couldn't tell which one it was so I got each movie in HD for a dollar each. lol Good times.

Suits - Never watched, but it's clear from the outside that since TBS went for a darker/less blue skies TV image with Mr. Robot setting the tone...even suits was made to have a darker themed tone. Crazy stuff. Speaking of...

Mr. Robot - Crazy ep last night! I'll wait to make sure you're caught up before discussing MJ.

Supergirl - Almost done the Bizarro Supergirl episode. Then I'm on hold until more episodes air again. Still no flash!

Strain - I'll probably catch up on this tomorrow.

MJ said...

Nope - still not seen Suidcide squad.

Supergirl - I loved it when Jonn Jones posed as Supergirl. I was so freaked that they were letting Cat in on the secret so early. Liked the Bizarro Supergirl ep too

Atlanta - agreed - had it's amusing moments. Will also keep watching

Night of - yup - finished as well. Glad he got out, but he was left a pretty dark guy for it all. Didn't buy that Chandra was that dumb or naive - but whaever. Loved the cat being back at the end.

Batman vs Super/TWD - still have part of me that thinks Maggie is the one dying (I think I posed this after the finale) but she is viewed as weak since she was on a stretcher when Negen and his peeps found them. Negen only wants the strong. And the group already reacted to her possibly being harmed in front of Negen. Just saying. It would certainly be a bold move.

Mike V. said...

Supergirl - All caught up until Monday on this. Yeah I didn't think it would last with Cat knowing. lol Calista does a great job in that role. I think we discussed that she may not be in season 2. I've seen she's been listed as guest star status or something or maybe recurring. Guess we'll see what happens.

Night Of - I don't remember who Chandra is. Was that Nas's attorney? I guess the whole kiss thing was plot mechanics to allow Turturro to give the closing arguments. But it was a pretty weak plot mechanic!

TWD - Yeah I've pretty much stuck with Maggie. Glenn seems too obvious and it's underwhelming after teasing his death for half a season last year. It's also what happened in the comic so you'd think they'd be doing something different. My wife says she thinks it's Michonne...since she slept with Rick so it would be another blow to his character. Makes sense but that would suck!

Mike V. said...

Supergirl - season 1 added to Netflix! Looks like I'll finish sooner than expected! Lol

Been enjoying the Star Trek 50th. Watching reruns. A few observations.
1. Sulu isn't in as many as I thought and I don't understand why he's made a big deal.
2. I like Scotty and wish they had more of him.
3. Yeoman Janice Rand--I forgot about her. She was great, wish she had done more. Roddenberry used her in other productios as well.
4. A lot of 1960s TV pshycho stuff that gets old quick. Thankfully not too much.
5. I don't remember everything and that's great.
6. Watching The Cage tonight.
7. Nurse chapel married Gene Roddenberry in real life. She was also #1 in the pilot and did the computer voice, etc.
Richard

Mike V. said...

Trek
1. George Takei has made a big deal? Or he's made a big deal in the new movies? Not sure what you mean. I know they made his character gay in the new movies as a nod to George's preferences. And he was upset about that since it's not canon to his character.

I certainly don't remember much about the old show. I've seen a lot of the episodes but I don't think I ever watched all of them. And of course I've seen all the movies (except Beyond...still want to) I've seen The Cage. The most recent one I watched was the time travel episode as I heard it holds up well. I forget the name of it but it's really good.

Supergirl - Think I'm just going to wrap this one up since it's on Netflix now. Astra was killed by Kara's sister but Martian Manhunter covered for her.

MJ said...

Supergirl - yeah her sister takes it hard that she killed her aunt. Oh - so you must have seen the Flash cross over one then ? Or did I miss your comments on it ?

AHS - starts this week - Wednesday I think. Seems early to me.

Richard - new show starting this week on Discovery. Taking Fire I think is the title - supposedly follows 101st airborne in Afghanistan (or Iraq - not remembering well
right now) with first person story telling. Apparently 2 soldiers wear helmet cams or something. I think I am going to look at that. I believe it premiers tonight at 10pm

Blindspot also back this week. Next week Shield and something else that I can't remember. LOL

Trek - Rand was nothing but eye candy. LOL Yeah - Roddenbury kept his wife involved.

Conviction - another show could be ok. Has Hayley Atwell in it as well as Beth from TWD. About a bad-girl lawyer who is then tasked with an Innocent Project like task. We shall see

Mike V. said...

Supergirl - I have still not seen the flash crossover ep. But Hank has been outed, supergirl got red kryptonite and Alex finally came clean about killing astra. Netflix better not have skipped out on the flash ep! lol

AHS - REALLY? Maybe they finally decided they want the whole season to air before Christmas instead of carrying over. What's the name of this season? I probably need to set the TiVo.

Conviction - didn't see that one. But I did hear about this one:

The Good Place - Kristen Bell and Ted Danson....apparently it's about the afterlife. Doc Jensen was tweeting about it. It's a comedy, but he compared it to a show IF the LOST theories on purgatory were true. He said he's hooked and has watched 4 of them. I set the DVR.

Also set the DVR for Designated Survivor, This is Us and will set for Timeless once it's available. Not sure when I'll watch any of this!! :)

NBC stuff starts next week (good place at least after the voice - which I don't watch!) I guess some ABC stuff might be coming back too like you said. We're getting into that time!

Mike V. said...

AHS - so it was listed on TiVo as American Horror Story but there's a picture with a 6 on it (Season 6)...then I saw something that said "THE MIST". I dunno. Anyway, I'm all set for Wednesday!

Anonymous said...

Yeoman Rand was in I think 3 of the movies too. I might say she was more than eye candy. But nothing wrong that either--lol.

I'll check out the show MJ, thanks.

Richard

Mike V. said...

Rand - Looked her up. I remember her being in the TV show. Never made the connection to her being in Motion Picture (I), IV and VI though.

Supergirl - Finally saw the Flash episode! It coincided with Siobhan being revealed as a metahuman or whatever. I had heard Flash was on the wrong earth but had forgotten. So it'll be interesting to see if the FLASHPOINT plotline somehow gets them in the same timeline for the multi 4 show crossover. Really good episode though. Funny how Olsen got jealous the whole time he was around.

And the end set up what I'm guessing is the final 2 episode conflict with Non who has found a way to control the human race. Gotta decide if I want to wrap this up in the morning or watch AHS, Robot and then finish it up Friday morning. lol

Anonymous said...

recorded Taking Fire, will see it soon.

Suits--I forgot if you guys watch it. But a pretty big finale with a key character leaving.

Richard

Mike V. said...

Taking Fire - Not sure I heard of that one. Is that one of the new USA shows? I have been seeing a few seconds of promos when I'm fast forwarding to get back to Mr. Robot. lol

Suits - I don't watch, just have noticed the darker tone since Mr. Robot has become the flagship show for USA. USA is changing their image from the Blue Skies network to something a little more grey. lol

Mr Robot - I watched the latest. Not much to say right now...that was a wacky episode. And I don't know anymore what I real and what isn't. We saw Tyler at the end...was he there or not?? lol And no word on Elliot's sister (drawing blank. Daphne? Darlene? lol)

AHS - Got 40 minutes into the episode but not time to finish. So it's a fakeumentary horror film? lol Okay....I see Cuba carried over from American Crime Story and they have their returning cast of cronies. I'm sure it'll be entertaining. I am curious to see when they're going to start tying all the seasons together. Ryan Murphy did say it's part of the plan....that everything is related somehow.

Mike V. said...

AHS - oh I did hear that it's 10 episodes this season and I was right on the reason for the timing. Ryan was quoted saying stuff like he doesn't want to be watching AHS at Christmas....he wants it to be around Halloween. So starting in September and doing 10 episodes makes sense. Plus..13 was too many for this show. It always feels too long.

MJ said...

Supergirl - I thought Flash ep was earlier- I was getting nervous they didn't have it. It was a fun ep. Liked that Hank was outed, and that the sister came clean.

Taking Fire - I thought I said on Discovery ? Maybe no - lol . Not it's documentary like about the day in the life of the 101st airborne in afghanistan. I taped it - haven't watched it yet

AHS - I loved it ! I have seen those cheesy paranormal/ghost shows on tv - they are just like that ! It was listed as MIst - to keep the whole Roanoke thing a secret since it's such a big urban legend. I read today that Season 1 (maybe - not sure now) mentioned Croatoan - which was found carved in a tree in the supposedly real roanoke disappearances. So nice tie in if they show Coratoan.

Yup - going to look at Good Place as well. Already checked out premier of Better Things on Fx - was amusing - even for someone who does not have kids. Speechless looks very charming.

Suits - no but my husband does. And I read today who left. ;-D

Robot - not watched this week yet - don't know the end result of the diner shooting

MJ said...

Vikings - just read that season 4B returns on 11/30 !

You are right Mike - here we go again !

Luke Cage and Longmire will be on Netflix soon - and I won't have time to watch them darn it.

Read about some Nat Geo show about going to mars is coming - sounded interesting. https://www.yahoo.com/tv/mars-national-geographic-channel-premiere-date-144321018.html

Mike V. said...

Supergirl - Yeah it happened when Supergirl needed the help most. When the city had seen her at her worst and hadn't forgiven her. In fact, a firefighter actually saved both Supergirl and The Flash with a fire hose after Supergirl was willing to risk her life to save people in a helicopter. But yeah it was the 3rd to last episode of the season. I'm going to try and wrap it up tomorrow, but I need to finish this AHS episode too. Then I can binge the 3 episodes of The Strain that I'll be behind next week. (I watched the season premiere)

Taking Fire - oh duh...I didn't make the connection between your post MJ and Richard's comments. lol Yeah I'm sure it's on Discovery or History or something. But, I haven't looked into it. I'm sure I'd be interested in it if I recorded it and watched it though!

AHS - Oh yeah I'm enjoying it so far. I like how they get to have 2 actors for each role since they're doing a documentary and reenactment. lol Interesting on the Croatoan (or Coratoan...you spelled it differently each time and I don't know the actual spelling!! lol).

Ugh...too many shows!! I didn't even hear about Better Things....Speechless I think I saw something about.

Robot - (no spoilers) I went into the episode thinking that they wouldn't come right out and answer that diner shooting question off the bat. No episode of this show has a traditional format. I was not disappointed in my thinking. lol I won't say if they reveal anything or not though.

Mike V. said...

Vikings - right...I kept meaning to post that info! Thanks for picking up my slack. :)

Luke Cage - I did see that starts soon. Never started Longmire, but I know you guys like it.

Mars - hmmm...That actually sounds pretty good! 6 episodes around the holiday timeframe? I'm in! lol Hopefully, there's more press around it come November so I'll remember to set my TiVo. (I act like I don't have a phone next to me where I can set a reminder to do such a thing)

MJ said...

Robot - I watched last night. Should have realized they would not reveal what happened to Darlene and Cisco ! LOL That whole thing with blondie was so weird! Loved that ancient old computer. And the floppy disc. My husband remembered playing some kind of game on it that was very similar with input being answering question and giving commands. DB Wong is so excellent in this role - so weird cause I remember him waaay back in the day as aphychologist on law and order

Croatoan is correct. LOL It's a famous urban legend actually. In the Coven one he did a famous legend too - the Kathy Bates character was based on a true person who did those horrible things.

LOL on having the phone at hand to set reminders

Blindspot - wow so everyone knows everything - until they make Jane a double double agent at the very end.

Anonymous said...

Taking Fire--It's a reality show. Lots of Pech River Valley action.

One unusual thing is that it reminded me of how the cost of ordnance is considered in combat.

One of the companies I was involved with bid on some armor for BAE system vehicles. The IEDs are awful. Special suspension seats helped a lot too.

Richard

Mike V. said...

Robot - Lots of 80s references in last night's episode. I only noticed one Back to the Future reference (playing the band's instrumental music from the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance in the van). But apparently there were more. But then the Commodore 64 and that Zork text entry RPG game. It was wacky! (Yep, your husband recalls correctly. I don't think I ever played the game, but I remember Tom Hanks playing it in BIG lol I do recall our Commodore 64 though!)

AHS - Croatoan - so do we think this is the thing that may link them all together? Speaking of Kathy Bates...when she popped out in front of the car I was glad I wasn't on the treadmill yet....it got me....I was standing and fell onto the couch. I would've fallen off the damn treadmill! lol

Mars - oh you better believe I set that reminder!!

Supergirl - Finished season 1! When that Charlie Puth song "Superman" was getting a lot of play early this summer I made fun of it so much. But, it turned out it was the perfect song to play at the end of SUPERGIRL. "superman got nu-----than---on maaaaayyyy I'm only one....calllllll awaaaay" Love my CW sappy stuff! lol Kara got a promotion and Cat called her Kara for the first time. her saying her goodbyes was good stuff. And Alex saving her with her ship was good too.

BTW....I totally called that Jeremiah was still alive. Any time on these shows where parents have a mysterious death...they're never dead! lol Looking forward to being in the fold with SG and Flash this season! Maybe iZombie if season 2 ever makes it to Netflix!

Black Mirror - Saw on Reddit that there's an official date of 10/21 for the next 6 eps to be released. I looked through our comments and only had mentioned October before. So, maybe this is news. :) Michael Schur (Parks and Rec/B99) and Rashida Jones (The Office/Parks and Rec fame, also writing Toy Story 4) wrote an episode that apparently has been screened. Someone said it's the best piece of television they've seen in years. Charlie Brooker is the main guy behind Black Mirror though and he is credited with writing 3 of the new episodes. I'm excited about these. So good, but they're all depressing! lol

Black Mirror - I think I saw that data last week too. Unfortunately probably won't get to it for a while. Rashida Jones (and Steve Carell) also are behind the very silly Angie Tribeca.

Supergirl - yeah they ended it pretty well. I enjoy it - light entertainment.

Line of Fire - watched the first one finally. Very good. Sad but good.

AHS - Croatoan - maybe it will be the link.

Sigh - so much starting this week already. LOL Will check most of the new shows at least once. I think they only one I am not at least looking at is Pitch.

Robot - after the finale this week there is a preview of a new show called Falling Water. I've seen some trailers - one of those that you are not quite sure what the heck it is about. But looked intriguing. Why they are previewing it at 11pm I cannot say.

Emmys - Game of Thrones wins again!! Totally deserved. It also broke the record for most Emmy wins by any TV show ever for the entire series (beat out the West Wing). I'm guessing they'll only add to that record. Saw GRRM was there on stage with them. That dude needs to be writing! LOL They were asking the team about a prequel series after the awards. D&D said they're not going to do it, but have no doubt HBO will explore more Westeros stories. GRRM said, "I still have 2 books to finish" lol Lots of other big wins. Rami Malik for season 1 Mr. Robot. Tatiana Maslanay finally won for Orphan Black! (and Keifer totally butchered reading the name...pulling a Travolta lol) People vs. OJ won lots too. And Kimmel was hilarious all night.

Black Mirror - I have all episodes of Angie recorded...just never made time for it. Maybe eventually! Just seeing how my TV schedule is starting to get busy this week I can't imagine getting to Black Mirror soon either. But maybe I can squeeze in 1 here and there. It's not like they're all related so you can do that. lol

Supergirl - Yep, glad I picked it back up. Thanks for recommending my summer viewing! lol

New Shows - I set the DVR this week for Designated Survivor, Good Place and Lethal Weapon (not looking forward to that one. I'm sure it'll be entertaining, just don't understand the point of it!!) Good place will be airing 3 episodes this week. 2 tonight or tomorrow and then one Thursday. Maybe Thursday will be the regular air day?

Returning Shows - Gotham is back tonight, Modern Family is on this week. Is BBT this week or next week? I know it's on Monday for Thursday Night Football for a few weeks.

Strain - Almost caught up. I started watching Last night's ep but not finished. They killed the master!! But I saw that worm slither off so I'm sure he's not dead which is why the BORN is not dead either. And how could they fall for the ol' "Kid with a bag on his head" trick. I would've told them to remove the bag much earlier! lol

Falling Water - I doubt I'll be checking it out but let me know how it is!

Vice Principals - Loved this show. So ridiculous....and crazy ending. Was waiting for the other shoe to drop that entire last 15 minutes. They filmed the entire series in one shot, so I think we get one more season and then it's done.

Thought about starting a new thread for the first TRUE week of Fall TV. Any thoughts??

And so it begins! Break time is over. :)

Yup - time for a new thread MIke. Fall tv was officialy here last night. LOL

Black Mirror - yes - I'm sure stand alone.

Strain - yeah - we all say - take the bag off the head ! LOL Yup on worm and if the master is dead.

Vice Principals - I watched the first few - couldn't get into it. Angie - is very much like the airplane movies of old. Great silliness for summer viewing but that's about it.

Taped Kevin James show - just for the heck of it - but not watched yet. I will also watch Lethal Weapon - agree probable a fun show - but agree what is the point of it ? LOL LIke I said - I think I am sampling everything except Pitch. Husband wants to look at Macguyver - I do not. Oh - and i will probably not go back to Prison Break either.

Good Place - yes I think thursday will be its future home. According to my DVR we are taping 3 eps but not in order ? That might just be an error at this point. We shall see.

Okay...I'll look to create a new thread! Maybe I'll wait to respond to this there! (i'll have more time in the PM)

Good Place - Yep Thursday is normal home....2 aired last night (really good!) and the next ep is Thursday. I don't think they're out of order. But who knows??? I'll respond to the rest on the next thread.
