Revolution: Season 2 Episode 11 - Mi Dos Padres

Hello and welcome back to the Revolution!  Things keep escalating in this crazy apocalyptic future.  We're starting to see a link between the East Coast arc and the Texas arc, and we're learning more about the crazy nannites.  I don't have lots of time this week, so let's jump right into our brief review!

Discussion Points

Spring City, OK
  •  When last we left Aaron was facing Grace in the ghost town at gunpoint.  We learn that Grace has been there since the tower.  Even after all was said and done, I didn't get the significance of the town besides it being a place where Aaron would get more information from Grace.  But, I guess from what we learned about the nannites, that might be exactly why they sent him there.
  • For anyone who didn't watch the previews for this week, it may have been a bit of surprise that Aaron's ex-wife would be there too!  She apparently was getting similar visits from the nannites and thinking she was crazy.  It even led to her husband and kids leaving her.  How convenient since Aaron's love interest was taken out of the equation too!  For the record, she noted that she had conversations with her dead father and saw fireflies.
  • Grace mentioned her concern that eventually the nannites would wake up and become conscious.  There was a lot of fake science fiction mumbo jumbo here explaining how the nannites multiplied and become more powerful than a human brain.  And they explained how the nannites are networking across the globe as well.  This may explain how they knew Grace was in Spring City and sent Aaron and ex-wifey there.
  • But why send those 2 there?  I already thought we knew this, but Grace, Ben and Rachel used Aaron's code (that they stole) in the nannite technology.  I guess we only knew before that they used it in the tower.  But, I always assumed it was all connected so this wasn't a big reveal for me!  So anyway, the nannites basically want to know their parents.  What maybe we didn't know is that Aaron's ex-wife helped with that code so she is basically the mother!
  • Grace's closing note was that she compared these nannites to God.  So she's claiming that they created God or a god.  But, considering the powers we've seen on display, I guess it's a good comparison.  But, I don't really know if they're going to build on that any further.  And now that we have our answer, it'll be interesting to see where they take the story from here.
South of the Border, Mexico
  • Definitely some interesting storytelling here.  Monroe gets captured, meets Nunez and tries to win his son over.  He tells Connor that he's being used by Nunez and the first mistake he makes will basically be his last.  Then Miles knocks down Connor and frees Monroe.  But, Monroe grows a conscience and can't leave his son.  This gives Connor the warmy fuzzy feeling in his Grinch-sized heart (the same size as his father's...awwww) and he tries to reason with Nunez.  It results in Connor giving his father public lashings for disobedience but saving him from certain death.   And of course, we as viewers are meant to view these lashings as Monroe paying for his many many sins against humanity.
  • Meanwhile, Rachel was working her mojo on one of the cartel men to get inside the walls.  When she got in, Connor snuck her a key to get Miles and Monroe out.  It would've worked like gangbusters except that same guy she was working over caught Connor betraying Nunez.  So, of course, this turned into a life threatening situation for Connor, where father and son could go to town on the Mexican cartel (with the help of Rachel and Miles) and walk off into the sunset.
  • Connor and Monroe have their bonding moment near the end of the episode where Monroe recruits him to help with the Patriots, but promises it's all leading to better things (i.e. World Domination).
  • Lots of dated pop culture references again which were humorous but I forget them already!  But they were humorous when they were mentioned.  Still, you'd think some of the pop culture references would be from the 2010s era since this is supposed to be 15 years after that.  I mean why not throw a direct LOST reference in there since it's clear this is the same universe where a show like that would've existed?  I guess they don't want to pay Disney to even utter it!

Washington D.C.
  • Tom and Julia continue their conspiracies to take over the White House for what is becoming more and more unclear.  Wasn't Tom only rising in power to get revenge for his wife's supposed death?  Maybe they're just out for revenge for the nukes now.  Maybe Julia is pulling the strings and wants more power.  In any case, they're still plotting to kill people and Tom just can't wait to kill Julia's husband and new Chief of Staff.
  • Meanwhile, Jason uncovered plans and even broke into said Chief of Staff's office to find more Patriot stuff going on.  Looks like my theory on the druggings in Willoughby were pretty much dead on.  They're planning to turn it into a Reeducation center along with many other cities across the country.  But then Jason discovered some more disturbing information as he found out they plan on wiping out some cities too.  He wasn't able to clarify how before he got arrested by the Patriot military (for his break-ins).   But, now we have our tie-in to Willoughby.  Maybe Tom will receive word on who may be lurking around at the said fictional town and head out there for assistance or the opposite (you never know with that dude).

Willoughby, Texas
  • Gene and Charlie were still the only remaining people in town that we semi-care about.  Charlie drew many comparisons between Gene and Rachel during the hour (i.e. Gene's apparent disregard for orders).
  • They were doing some Patriot spying early on and Gene noticed a friend of his in danger or something.
  • Long story short, Truman discovers them and captures them.  But, then he shows them what's going on.  They are building a quarantine camp outside of the city because a typhus outbreak has started.   Truman pulled an X-Men 2 and told Gene that even though they have their differences they must work together or they're going to lose the whole town.
  • The thing is, this scene was immediately after us learning that the Patriots are planning to wipe towns off the map.  Is it possible that they initiated this outbreak?   I guess we'll find out next week as they seemingly are forming an alliance to combat this disease.
And that's where we leave things this week folks!  Look forward to your comments on the episode.  Hope you enjoyed my ramblings and I'll see you next week!

I don't know how many are watching, but it's really pretty good stuff.

1. The nannites can communicate making them omnipresent around the world like a god--one thing I picked up. So, they also know everything going on. Makes me wonder if mom and dad can help direct them for good or if they'll become a target?? Certainly the nannites protect Aaron now.
2. The Monroe and his son deal is way longer than I thought it would be so the show must be setting up something serious about rebuilding the Monroe Republic, since his son made such a big deal about it. Any bets if it happens???
3. The Willougby connection with DC did indeed happen in this ep. With Jason now taken prisoner and Tom's wife being seen with Tom, I can see some action breaking open where they end up leaving DC for now.
4. Rachel and Miles cuddling asleep was interesting to see. Not what I think of with those 2 normally fighting--LOL.
5.Typhus can be nasty, they'll need some meds. I think we all know this is really a vehicle to create change in Willoughby and makes me wonder how Monroe will figure in. Spread by lice/flees mostly. Makes me wonder about the scene with "what's his name commander" washing his hands so much after just walking through the tent.

1.) Agreed...Aaron being able to control the nannites makes him a dangerous asset, if it's a fate he accepts.
2.) No idea...it's hard to tell if Monroe is reformed or he still has aspirations of ruling. I'm sure has always he'll have conflicting thoughts due to his friendship with Miles.
3.) Did Tom's wife actually get seen? She hid behind a doorway!! Surely no one saw her! (Sarcasm, it was pretty cheesily handled lol) But she did hide, so I don't think anyone caught Tom and her together at least not blatantly caught them. They were walking through the camp together.
4.) Yeah, I think they just put those 2 into a relationship without actually showing them dealing with their issues. They're just in looooove. lol
5.) Yeah, not sure what to make of the outbreak just yet. But it certainly will bring change as you said!

Tom's wife was seen by many walking into his tent and from his tent towards where Jason was standing. They made a point of showing all the other Patriots standing around in the open. I think at a minimum her new husband will find out she was walking around the area and he'll want to know why. Particularly since she's making it seem to him that she's so scared of being harmed while she's out there by herself.
