No surprise. Jessica Jones and punisher cancelled too. Still didn’t watch s2 of punisher.

MJ said...

Yeah - I haven't watched Daredevil; Fist nor Punisher. And JJ has another season that comes out this year. Why bother now though ? I really hate Disney+ now !

Mike V. said...

Naaa...I'm all for Disney+...I have no doubt they're going to have great content. Jon Favreau is launching The Mandolorian for the Star Wars content. He has a pretty strong batting average. (Elf, Iron Man (1 and 2 and helping launch the MCU), Jungle Book Live Action, upcoming Lion King Live Action) CBS I won't pay to watch since it's a broadcast TV channel. Disney content with all the properties they own? Yep sign me up.

The future of streaming is still up in the air and everyone is trying to get their cut. If you want to blame someone, blame technology and the Cord Cutters! Millenials don't even have cable subscriptions. They get everything they need through Hulu and other streaming services. (not to mention all of the other ways to get content out there like KODI, Torrents, Plex, etc...) I'm still trying to justify why I still pay so much for mine. But I'm just not quite ready to give it up yet.

Counterpoint. Series finale last Sunday night. Don't know if anybody else was watching.

ABC/Disney/Marvel Universe/ESPN--I'm really not a fan of any of them. To me, Marvel's being ruined. Too much political correctness in all of them. I used to watch ESPN every morning since it wasn't political. But, that ended when Disney bought them. Now ESPN is full of social commentary. Identifying what's good and bad behavior, etc. And SW has caught the "Mary Sue" disease, lol.

Still a DC fan though.

Counterpoint - I cancelled my STARZ subscription, but my TiVo kept recording the blank channel! lol

Disney - fair enough. lol I try to look past the social commentary they're subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) throwing in there. We'll agree to disagree on Rey's Mary Sue disease. Granted, you can't escape social commentary in entertainment these days. Even George Lucas threw in some jabs on the GWB Administration in his prequels. But DC television on the CW has been a far greater offender of being TOO in your face with things. It's painful. And of course, the demographic for that skews much younger so they're trying to brainwash the youth! lol

I totally disagree that Marvel has been ruined. In my MCU rewatch I am actually surprised to see that Disney's takeover didn't happen until during the release of Avengers 1. (all was Paramount before) But, I think the MCU has only improved with Disney Ownership. Kevin Feige is running that show and while I don't know how involved The Mouse is, it seems like they're letting him do his thing. I think they did lessen the bedroom activity since the Disney takeover. (Tony Stark was quite the playboy in those early films lol) But if there are any social messages to what they're putting out, it's gone over my head for the most part. Yes, there is one film up for an Oscar that we can debate if it has any business being there. The movie was decent, but its success can be attributed to other factors as well. And there is a movie coming out on International Women's Day this March. But I'm hyped for it and she's based on an actual comic book character. And if Kevin Feige knows one thing, it's how to stay true to the source material.

Star Wars has definitely become much more diverse under Disney Ownership. But I can't say that wouldn't have happened without Disney either. And George definitely was going for a female Jedi story with his early story treatments. far as I can tell, Disney has continued to produce mostly great content in each of its 4 major studios (Disney, PIXAR, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios). I'm pleased with the house of mouse! (I also have 2 kids 7 and under lol)

Forgot my Thrones update!

54 Days until Season 8
20.5 Episodes to go (I'm on a roll!)

I'm past the infamous "Sansa/Ramsay" wedding episode. Tyrion is with Jorah. Maester Aemon has died. Sam finally got some. Arya is about to start wearing her faces and Ser Meryn Trant is heading to Braavos with Mace Tyrell. Sand Snakes are everywhere and still awful. But Jaime/Bronn are a winning pair that make it endurable. Fighting Pits are going to open.

As I mentioned my wife is watching too. We're watching at our own pace but sometimes we're in sync and watch together. I have to say, every time there is a key Lyanna Stark and/or Rhaegar Targaryen and/or Jon Snow moment happening and I catch her looking at her phone and not paying attention it's painful! But, I don't want to spoil. lol I did notice Sansa pick up the feather in the crypt this time and put it back in Lyanna's hands. Ahhh and hearing Littlefinger discuss the Tournament at Harrenhal. I remember thinking the show as just never going to bring it up and then they finally did. And when they did, we knew they weren't going to shy away from the greatest reveal/twist that had been theorized for so long. Ahh so good.

At this pace I think I'll probably be wrapping up this rewatch way before season 8 starts. But we'll see!

Current show that got the shaft because of Thrones: Shameless. I've been enjoying the episodes, but the wife is hooked and she wanted to keep playing the GAME!

GofT - wow you are rolling right along !

Redboxed a couple of movies. Bohemian Rhapsody (had little finger in it) and Marvels Venom - which was ok.

Mike V. said...

Venom - Still haven't seen, but I'm not very interested either. Sony still owns all of the Spiderverse characters (including Spider-Man) but they lease out Spider-Man to the MCU. I heard Venom did a "good" job of not interfering with the MCU story in case they want to pull him into it some day. But, at this time it is NOT an MCU film. So weird how they're doing this.

Bohemian Rhapsody - still on my To Do list. Have heard mixed things. But can't go wrong with the soundtrack!

MJ said...

Manifest - finale aired. Don't think anyone watching - but the finale was just cray cray awesome. This needs to get a second season.

Venom - yeah I wasn't that interested either - husband wanted it. It was ok. Amusing sort of.

This is Us - up to date except for last nights. Annoyed that Kevin took a drink. Not liking the whole uncle thing either really.

Mike V. said...

Manifest - I heard the finale was pretty crazy and also that ratings dropped for it. I’ll try to get to it eventually. But a pickup would make me more inclined! Lol.

This is Us - I’m with you on all of that. We started last night’s episode but I was falling asleep. From all of the tweets I had heard it was the best ep of the season. Halfway through I’m not seeing it. Lol

Thrones - 53 days to go, 19 episodes left. Just watched Hardhome. Man what a good ep. Jon takes out a white walker with Valaryian Steel. Tyrion has his big “break the wheel” discussion with Dany. And Night King does the ultimate “come at me bro” with his raising of the dead. Still got Dany riding the dragon and Cersei’s walk of shame before this season is done. Then next season they’ll introduce light speed travel and in season 7 warp speed!

MJ said...

SW - heard you finally might be getting that Obi Wan show ! I know you've discussed wanting a movie but a series could be good too

This is Us - yeah the Beth episode. Still haven't watched it.

Mike V. said...

Sw - I read that as well. I’m actually not surprised. I think they’re rethinking the future of Star Wars and these spinoff movies. TV series might be a good idea. They already have 2 in the works and Obi Wan makes sense. If the shows do well then they might be able to translate some of that to the big screen. April is Star Wars celebration. We’ll be getting an ep 9 trailer but I wouldn’t be surprised if we get some announcements for the post ep 9 Star Wars world.

This is us - finished last night. It was good! Last minute cut off and had to watch streaming.

Thrones - Jon is dead. Jon is risen! In season 6 lol

MJ said...

GofT - You have Battle of the Bastards coming ! I started my mini re-watch with the last 2 eps of S6 and then all of S7.

Game of Thrones:

51 Days to go, 12 episodes to watch! Just watched the Jack Bender (LOST) directed "THE DOOR" where we find out the origins of Hodor right at his terrible demise. So good. Saw the beginning of the Tower of Joy stuff with Ned and Howland Reed fighting the Sword of the Morning. So painful not to tell my wife the theories that book readers had the whole time with Jon Snow....and knowing that the reveal is coming in the show! But I'll be strong. lol I had to tell her during the Tower of Joy scene, "pat attention to this part". lol

Yep Battle of the Bastards is coming!

At this pace I think well be done pretty soon.

MCU - Going through with my MCU Rewatch too. Been waiting on my son to be ready to watch Thor: The Dark World because neither of us really saw it before. (rented it a long time ago, but it was the first break my wife and I had from parenthood and we fell asleep lol) Anyway halfway through that. spreadsheet expanded to MCU as well

13 Days until Captain Marvel
63 Days until Avengers: End Game
21 Movies to Watch (including Captain Marvel), 13.5 Movies left!

This is the order of release in case anyone cares. (I might have Iron Man and Hulk backwards but it doesn't really matter lol)

Iron Man
Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2
Captain America: The First Avenger
Iron Man 3
Thor: The Dark World
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Captain America: Civil War
Doctor Strange
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Thor: Ragnarok
Black Panther
Avengers: Infinity War
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Captain Marvel (March)
Avengers: End Game (April)
Spider-Man: Far From Home (July)

Reality TV Guilty Pleasures - Leslie you still out there? Voice and Idol coming back. About to lose all this free time I'm using for Rewatches! lol

Mike V. said...

Speaking of losing time. We've been so consumed by Thrones that I've fallen behind on BBT (1), MF (5?), Goldbergs (1) and Shameless (1). We'll catch up. And then maybe Manifest. But I may hold on to see if there's a renewal!

Oh and I think we're planning to binge Marvelous Mrs. Maisel next. Hopefully I can squeeze everything in!
