So, saw that they're goig to sell the tickets up to 2 months early. Maybe that's because they're worried?? My neighbor has two younger boys and they got some toy light sabers this weekend.

I think the movie will be a huge first weekender. At this point, that's not even really a test of the movie. It's the second and/or third weekend that's an indication.

I wasn't crazy about the final poster--defnitely a story about Ren(Leia or Luke's daughter?) now. Everyone's asking about "where's Luke" since they have been told this goes back to the first three. Saw where some are expecting him in the trailer tonight especially since he's not on the poster.

Such a pessimist. They are not worried one bit. I'll be booking my tickets tonight! It's probably for the marathon and the first night shows. They do it this early because the anticipation is so high. I'm not going off that one opinionated article you sent me lol.

That's rey that is front and center. Kylo ren is the bad guy top left. There's a chance they're related and offspring of a skywalker or solo. We'll see!

In training today so won't be posting much!

I'll be waiting to January to go see it ! LOL

More comments....Luke's absence from the poster is intentional. I think the movie may fixate around it. His lightsaber has been very much involved in the trailers (i.e. Anakin's original light saber that Luke lost in Empire). But also in an interview with JJ Abrams (EW cover feature that I most likely mentioned in these blog posts)...we found out that he got reeled into being involved due to one question: Who is Luke Skywalker?

They've been very careful to not let any info on Luke leak. (of course, it has but I've tried to avoid it) There was a picture of him floating around but Lucasfilm found ways to take them down.

If you look at the cast billing on the poster it's Ford, Hamill and Fisher right up top. I'm sure that's part of their contract negotiations....but I'm sure they'll all be prominently involved in some way.

Some speculate that he might even be on the cover and we just don't realize it. But the only masked figure is Kylo Ren and that's Adam Driver's role.

Anyway, that's all I have for now. Looking forward to trailer and ticket sales.

I think this movie will do very well past the 1st weekend. But yes...the 1st weekend will be absolutely HUUUUUGE! lol

back to training!

Just wanted to post for the record that I'm checking frequently to buy tickets for Star Wars on fandango. There are showtimes available just not near me yet. Fandango has crashed. Yeah, I don't think Disney is worried about ticket sales! lol

Yea, it will be a HUGE opening. Just saw the trailer.

No Luke and lots of Rey. No question that she's what the new story is about. The force is calling you Rey. Liked Ford saying that it was all true. So, sounds like things got complacent after VI. And of course the production will be amazing.

ONe thing occurs to me is that when the original started back in 77 the special effects were so new and that newness helped make the movie amazing. When I watched the trailer after 30 years of those types of scenes they're not as special as they were back in 77. I think the last 3 could even be criticized for having too much special effects---jar jar comes to mind as one example. So, that leaves good old fashioned elements such as writing, actors, directing and a compelling story to make a difference.

I'm telling you...Luke is a big part of the story but they're not showing anything about it on purpose. I thought Rey was the one saying the force is calling you. But who knows?? She is definitely gonna be the offspring of someone. Maybe not...but seems like it. Prequels were panned for too much CGI...not just effects....COMPUTER effects. That's why the new sequels are using lots of practical effects like the originals. sure it won't feel fresh like the originals but it shouldn't. But if they can tell a great story...then game on!!!

I'll have more thoughts later. Got my tickets for 7:15 12/17!!!

Good news on tickets.

Yes I think the special effects will be fantastic.

Definitely think Rey is daughter of Luke or Leia.

Vader's mask was interesting. Can't imagine it being important though. Unless it has some ability to hold mitochlorians or something.

The movie also seems to continue the idea of jedis and the dark side.

Gotahm--Dumal family now Galavan. Interesting background info. So, Wayne family is arch enemy. And Wayne family was not so nice.

OMG, Penguin cutting Butch's hand off. I bet we see Fish soon.

BTW, how is Tabitha Galavan's sister? I mean she's a different race, right?

I wonder if we'll see Ras Al Ghul now with those coming in from overseas and the monk like guy?

Richard

It sounds like Kylo Ren is a Vader fanatic so he's collecting old artifacts from that era. Darth's mask...possibly hunting for Anakin's light saber (i.e. luke's saber which we see Finn holding in the preview) We think Rey probably finds this lightsaber in her scavenging on Jakku. Also, like mentioned before there could be a reveal about who Kylo Ren actually is. He is of the Knights of Ren so he adopted that last name. So he, along with Finn and Rey don't have last names revealed just yet. It would make sense that someone strong with the force might be a descendent of someone we know as well. If they follow the expanded universe as source material at all...Han and Leia did have twins...a boy and a girl. Perhaps Rey and Kylo could be those twins. But that's a lot of speculation. lol If Rey is estranged from her parents...then it might make more sense for her to be the offspring of Luke who seems to be off the map too. Time will tell!

BTW...Luke IS in the trailer and was in the teaser 2 trailer. Same shot of him in both. Cloaked with his mechanical hand touching R2D2. His voiceover was used for the teaser 2 trailer as well.

GOTHAM - Dumal??? I think it was Dumas. I had the closed captioning on...and it reminds me of that commercial where the guy was on an interview saying "I am DUMBASS material!" ...and the guy said, it's pronounced (Dumaaaa S being silent) Great commercial. lol

Yeah they certainly were foreshadowing Fish isn't dead, which I figured it was left open for her to return. I don't know if it'll be soon but I could see her come back. No idea with Tabitha. Good question though. They spoke about Ras al Ghul in interviews last year indicating there were no current plans...but that certainly could change in season 2. The monk like guy was galavan's father right? And he also was a prominent part of the show ALIAS.

Sleepy Hollow - I think I screwed up recording this because of the Eagles Game/SW Trailer. Gonna have to wait for the Fox app to have it!

I saw the trailer again on ESPN this morning. Wow, Disney is going ALL OUT on promoting this!
When I saw the trailer I saw the hand with black glove touching R2D2 and said, that's Luke this morning.

Gotahm--I took Galavan's calling the monk as father to be more of spiritual leader deal. But I don't know. Because of the spiritual leader deal and them coming from some place overseas it made me think of the League of Assassins. Particularly when he spoke about them descending on Gotham, etc.

OK, crazy thought on Gotham. What if Tabitha is really Nyssa? But, more like the Nyssa of Arrow.

Richard

Mike V. said...

Oh yeah...they purchased Lucasfilm for 4 Billion and I think they'll get their money back on this movie alone with box office and merchandise. Such a crazy deal. But yeah that's Luke...if you watch the 2nd teaser trailer again you'll see that same clip is in it with Luke's voiceover saying "the force is strong in my family...my father has it....I have it" when he says "I have it"....it shows that clip.

Gotham - Ahhh good point. I just thought since it was a family vengeance plan that it actually was his father. I don't know much about Nyssa or Arrow. lol I only know Green Arrow lore from Smallville!

Anonymous said...

Nyssa is Ra's daughter in Batman canon. The Arrow/TV version made her a lesbian--one reason I quit watching--I'm tired of the PC police trying to shove this down my throat.

BTW, someone just sent me some info that SW is introducing 3 LGBT types, one as an important character.

Richard

Mike V. said...

Maybe they'll save that SW experimentation for the anthology series movies. lol

John Boyega (Finn) just retweeted a variety article indicating that Star Wars presales have broken records and broke Hunger Games presales record 8 times over!

I rest my case. :)

Homeland - Didn't take them long to put Carrie back in crazy town ! Though she was right - his kid missing was them coming for her. No way Saul has Carrie on a hit list to be killed by Quinn. And something isn't right with that whole Saul sleeping with the Berlin chief - so was their whole argument about sacrificing her and she going to Dar a plan ? Some kind of long con against Dar ?

Flash - from last week (I am soooo behind) was good fun as always. Liking the female cop who has joined the task force now. Surely they are going to give Jay Garret his speed back somehow though ?

Mike V. said...

Sleepy - Duhhhh forgot it moved to Thursday. That would explain why my TiVo didn't record it! lol

No Homeland for us yet.

Leftovers - had to return to the guilty remnant didn't we? lol This season has still been an improvement over last (even though I still enjoyed last season). So it's nice to focus on one storyline at a time. Now we've had 3 episodes taking place around the same timeframe. Next week we finally get to dive into that disappearance in Miracle.

ESPN is laying off nearly 10%. My wife used to work for ESPN as well as Fox and a few other media companies. Declines in audience for the last several years.
I read where the best place to be for TV is local news. My wife confirmed it. The CEOs of Disney and other companies have said the same thing recently on CNBC. The second best place is sports. The third was not agreed to by all, but from what I could gather owning content was likely the third best slot---potentially the best depending on the franchise but eventually these franchises grow old and so long term, back to local TV news for consistency long term.

OH yea, and of course I used to supply CNN and other media companies a lot of their apple products. I guess it's hard for me to watch these things happen.

I'm so behind. LOL I'm just completing last week's Blindspot (ultra violet tats and yet again day of crisis is just as they decifer a tat) and only the first ep of Fargo (which was excellent). Behind on AHS as well - only seen the first as the second was more then 1.5 hours. Read that the episode names for Blindspot are puzzles.

Woe Has Joined = Who Is Jane Doe?
A Stray Howl = Taylor Shaw
Three Slim Grins = The Missing Girl
Bones May Rot = Or Maybe Not

Flash - LOL on forgetting when it airs. They have a Bones crossover so I will watch Bones just that once.

Read that Yahoo lost tons of money on their original programming - including Community

Leftovers - gave it up. Decided not to watch this season

Mike V. said...

Leftovers - Oh right, I forgot I'm the only one watching!

Yahoo - Read about that too

I'm behind too and when I look at the TiVo when we finally can watch something, we just groan and don't know what to watch. lol We usually turn to the comedies first so we watched BBT, Grinder, B99, Last Man. We've also still be trying to plow through Sopranos. Almost done season 4. I think we are 1 behind on Blacklist but will definitely watch Scandal tonight. Still need to watch Homeland too.

On my own (mornings) I've watched Shield, ONCE, Gotham, SW Rebels, AHS: Hotel and will watch Heroes and Sleepy.

It's a full time job to keep up with this stuff!

That's crazy Richard about the layoffs in the News reporting industry. Makes sense though I guess. Times certainly are changing. But I could see that Local News still is a safe place to be.

Mike V. said...

MJ - Just saw your Sleepy comment. I read FLASH, so I skipped it but then figured you just wrote it instead of Sleepy! I did read about the Bones crossover. I watched Pilot of Bones and enjoyed it but then never watched another episode. Can't believe it's been on so long! I guess I could stand to stop in for an ep. lol

Great Blacklist last night, overall. Of course some things that were nuts, like Djinn. BTW, did you guys recognize pee wee herman as Vargas? I had to be reminded.

LIked that Samar stood up for reality re Liz killing Connelly.

BBT--did we talk about this? Always funny

GRinder--did we go over this one too? Anyway, I think it's funny how that girl is much younger than Rob Lowe and yet he's pursuing her. I loved when the Judge was happy the brother told the social climbers off.

Sleepy - the crossover with Bones was better then expected. Loved the zombir army.

Flash - benn good these last few weeks. Like the new Iris - more involved. And now another clueless one to take Iris's place - Patty Spivey so far has some chemistry with Barry - cause they are REALLY highlighting that. LOL Going to miss Stein when he leaves - I really like him and Victor Garber who plays him. the guy who is replacing Ronny was ok too. Loved how Caitlin automatically assumed the brainy one would be best. Only thing - It feels weird that Caitlin seems so into Jay Garrick since she just lost her husband a few months ago. Just saying. And I've heard that Iris uncovering this half-brother is supposed to be something - but i don't know what.

LOL on me calling Sleepy Flash.

MJ - Just a heads up you posted this on last week's thread! I copied/pasted to the new one. :)
