Bates - finally watched this weekend. Def a high creep factor when he took mom's dress ! LOL And Norma sitting in that rocker - in the orig movie wasn't mother dead and sitting in the rocker ? Or maybe I'm thinking of another movie called Burnt Offerings. I actually thought I'd missed something when Norman stated he'd told Norma.

Orphan Black back next weekend.

Cw has new show start this week called Messengers - another show about persons returning from the dead - this will be the third one.

Madmen--WOW, hard to believe no one is commenting but little ole me. Anyway, a better ep last night. But for some reason I feel like the show should be headed towards an ending and it seems like it's just another day at the office with 5 eps to go.

The storyline with the waitress was just boring. I get she and he are broken and they find each other. But, I don't need any downer TV.

The deal with him basically being robbed of his furniture was so sad. Especially after he gave Megan a cool million. Her mother is nuts, her sister is nuts and seriously she seems nuts. IN a way I couldn't blame Harry for trying. But that was very surprising, actually shocking. But, hey he's been living out on the left coast for a while.

Justified - didn't watch til wed then was not available to comment thu and fri. They shot Constable Bob ! I was not happy. Nice way of unloading Arlo's house though. Zacariah's plan ? Kill himself along with Boyd ? And he failed at that any way. I'm a little fearful for Loretta now too. So two big show downs for the finale maybe? Markham/Duffy and Raylan/Boyd ?

Shield - I'm behind commenting on almost everything. LOL I also thought Skye's mom was dead so WTH ?

MJ said...

Oops - forgot Grimm - evil Juliette is a little fun. Enjoyed Adalind almost getting hit with those gargoyles. But what is going on with the captain ? Doesn't make sense that this is from his mother healing him - cause why would a mother do this ?

Sorry so scattered today.

Richard, I'm watching Mad Men...i really just haven't had time to do anything with work. My big project is winding down in a couple days. I'll try to catch up then!

Then I have tons of TV to catch up on. :-(!

MJ - same on Justified. I will be watching the finale tomorrow night. season has been great!

Scorpion--finally a better ep and good heading into finale.

Gotham, back and good. Of course she escaped and getting shot won't stop her. Still not sure about Gordon's girlfriend.

Richard

MJ said...

Gotham - didn't get to watch yet.

Justified - Def watching tonight. I think it's running 7 mins long FYI - not too bad.

Bates - last week - fun to have Caleb and Chick together for a SOA reunion - though not sure they were actually together on SOA? Was

Opie already gone when Kenny Johnson was on ? Hmmm. Heard last night's ep was really good - will watch that tonight too.

Americans - that woman Lisa who works at Northrup - her husband was making me very nervous pushing to get in on what he thinks is

info his wife is leaking to rivals. Feeling he is not long for this world. They seemed to stress the 'beeps' they had heard from the

mailcart bug - even the count of them. This has to mean something.

Anonymous said...

Madmen--one of my friends is wondering if we're experiencing a dream by Don?? He said eps seem kind of strange.

Justified, any bets on who lives and dies tonight? I think Ava is taken out, Boyd goes to jail. I'm 50/50 on Rayland being taken out. I think interesting we haven't seen Winona nor child. Markham COULD possibly make it. That dweeb that works for him I want to bite the dust so badly.

Richard

Mike V. said...

Justified - pretty sure boyd will die. Good odds on Ava too. I think people would be pissed if raylan dies but it's always a possibility. I think he'll end up with his family somehow. Though I like the idea her Winona and daughter come to Harlan so he doesn't have to test the whole "leaving Harlan Alive" because we are definitely ending with some brad paisley tonight. 100% guarantee!

Mike V. said...

Mad men - doubt it's a dream but definitely bizarre so far. He did have a dream in ep 1 though. I did want to say it's 1970 which is crazy because we all just assumed it would end at the end of 69. They skipped right past Woodstock. Lol

Mike V. said...

Justified - well we got the brad song but not by him again.

Never thought there'd be a scenario where they all lived! Lol good finale. Didn't expect the flash forward and the Florida twists either. Good wrap up. I'll write more tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

Justified--I just knew there was no way Boyd would be killed. He's too close to Raylan. I think it's a fitting end after all the years of Raylan not capturing him. I kind of suspected Ava would get it since she was in the middle sort of between Boyd and Raylan. But once she drove away in the LIncoln, I knew she would live. I so loved the shoot out. And yet again Ava showed she's all about herself. She's so selfish she didn't realize how much Boyd loved her.

I just couldn't see Rayland getting back with Winona as the story wasn't being laid out for us this season. That's why I said it was interesting we hadn't seen her. When the flash forward happened it was surprising and neat. I was about 50/50 when I saw him go after Ava as to weather he was going to take her in. But when I saw the boy I kind of thought he wouldn't do it since that wasn't another lie.

I thought the finale was good and pretty much followed the flow of the season.

Anonymous said...

Justified--So, thought I would say more about Ava. I was thinking Ava would be caught between Boyd and Raylan in a gunfight which would result in her death and both of them remorseful or at least Boyd so hurt he let his guard down and gave up.

When the 3 of them were in the cabin at first I thought I had nailed it--lol. But nooo, Raylan had to tell her to get out of the way. I just knew at that point Boyd wouldn't want to kill Raylan.

Having said all that and in the other post. The one thing that just blows some of my theories up was when Boyd shot an empty gun at Ava. But I kind of thought that part of the scene was gratuitous. They didn't do it with a loaded gun and certainly went against the final scene.

Richard

Anonymous said...

Shield--Lots of good background and they are obviously trying to set up the movie. And that's good with me.

Richard

MJ said...

Justified - Wynn Duffy got Ava out and we assume got all the money ! LOL. I've loved his character - considering he was only supposed to be in two episodes and then killed. Glad Markham and Boone got killed. Damn near had a heart attach when Raylan was shot by Boone in the head ! How funny was the sight of both Loretta and Ava 'getting down' in the passenger seat of each car before the big gun fight. A little ridiculous that Ava drove off in hand cuffs - but I can live with it. Loved that Raylan took Boone's hat too ! It was funny but also once we saw the end I think for Raylan it symbolizes the end of his anger and need to be such a cowboy. I'm ok with the finale - glad that Ava got out and she seems happy with her little baby. Not sure I'd have named him after a crazy uncle - but her explanation made sense too. Very happy that Raylan went out of his way to make sure Boyd believed she was dead. I felt that we saw that Boyd still truly loved her - even though she had to betray him. I know he was going to kill her if that magazine had not been empty - but he loved her. And of course the hero saved the day ! Had to have that. Even had to have Raylan try to force the showdown by kicking over the loaded gun to Boyd. The old Boyd might have taken him up on it I think. Not surprised Winona and Raylan not together - but he is in his little girl's life and he and Winona seem to have a good relationship. I've often wondered how the people in eastern Kentucky felt about this show. LOL on Brad not singing - I wouldn't know if he did !

Read this online this morning:
Raylan pulls out a beat up copy of “The Friends of Eddie Coyle,” by George V. Higgins. It’s a novel set in Boston about a criminal being squeezed as an informer for the government. Mr. Leonard reportedly called it the best crime novel ever written.

I disagree Richard - I did not think shooting the empty gun was gratuitous - but I'm a romantic. Point is that Boyd's first instinct was to kill Ava cause she betrayed him. But then Raylan came in and Boyd had no gun at that time is when you see Boyd look at her and the pain he feels when he asked her why she betrayed him. But I agree with both of you - did not even consider that all three of them live !

MJ said...

Bates - you need to catch up on this one ! OMG - he put on Norma's dress and was cooking breakfast for Dylan - telling Dylan to go wake Norman. LOL Holy crap ! That Freddie Highmore is such a good actor. And Norma just losing her s**t was just awesome. This show is on fire this season - and we're only half way through it. So Norma and her brother seem to have made peace - but now he's agreed to do this job for Chick - can't end well. And the blackmail thing Norma is doing will def not end well.

What about Romero just shooting that guy, shoving him out of the way and driving away in the car. And the look on Norman's face when Norma hugs her brother ! Very scary.

From Bates EP: She also stated her and Cuse feel this is a 5 year show.
In many ways, this episode was about [what happens] when people make fatal mistakes and it leads to tragedy. This episode is that tipping point for a lot of the characters, and I think the rest of the season is as well. It's about people who've been pushed to a point, and they don't know how to handle it, they don't know what to do. They're choosing roads to go down, and things are set in motion in this episode that will reverberate to the end.

Gotham - I'm liking this show less and less. Didn't even really miss it while it was off for weeks. Really Bruce - you are going to go find the guy who shot your butler ? That was pretty ridiculous. Mooney and the Island/Doll maker was always pretty ridiculous too so hopefully that is over now.

MJ said...

Bates - Freddie Highmore interview - Did not occur to me to think how could he as Norma bought the blackberries the day before ? I’d assumed the bird being alive and his dog being alive were in his head – did not occur to me that him making breakfast could also be in his head. Damn !

Whew....I'm finally back!!! Big project I've been working on for 3 years finally reached its culmination the past couple of weeks, so I'm ready to get back into the TV fold slowly but surely. :) (I do still have a whole house full of crazies to tend to so I'm sure it'll still be challenging!)

Justified - Richard, you have an interesting perspective on the show since you skipped all of the in between seasons. lol Like Winona, she played a big factor in seasons 2 and 3...but then she got booked on The Following, and they just brought her in for limited appearances in later seasons. So, I was never curious why she wasn't present in season 6. And yes, I'm pretty sure she's not on The Following anymore either. But what they DID show of her this season seemed to imply that if he did move to Florida they would be together. But it makes sense that they weren't too considering all the drama they had earlier.
As for Boyd...well, it seemed very fitting that Raylan DIDN'T kill him in the end, because that resolves his whole arc of the series...Art told him he captured Boyd and he did it clean. When we first saw Raylan (and various times through the series) he killed his foe.

The whole closing Ava arc was a good time too. Mirrored the series premiere with Raylan coming to her house. And her having a child was a nice twist too.

Not sure how I didn't pick up on the hat being Boone's but that totally makes sense. lol I wasn't TOO worried about Raylan in that scene, because it was at the half hour mark of the episode. I started thinking what they would do for the rest of the episode of Raylan was dead. lol But yeah I was slightly worried! :)

Ending on the Coal Mining theme was a nice touch too...since that's what Harlan is all about!
RIP to a great show from start to finish!

Catchup - I saw your note MJ...I gotta figure out what show to catch up on first. I'm 2 or 3 behind on Bates, Vikings, Blacklist, Shield....then 1 behind on Americans and Gotham....and still have 1 more Game of Thrones back episode to watch (s4 finale) to finish my rewatch. lol I do agree though that I was kinda relieved Gotham hadn't been on. I like the show, but never have been thrilled by it. I'll catch up when I can!

All caught up on: Scandal, ONCE, Last Man, Mad Men, and of course season 5 of GoT!

Justified - Raylan was usually quick to shoot and violence - but I don't think he ever shot an unarmed man - that was his line he would not cross. If you had a gun in your hand he was very quick to shoot you - bringing to mind the pilot of the whole series in the restaurant. Read earlier that some thought the whole 'we dug coal together' was just Raylan being sly - his real reason for being there as we all knew was to make sure Boyd bought that Ava was dead. Also read that Olyphant did not keep the at he wore all these years but the hat in the end he kept cause he had it made for himself.

Catch up - Bates ! LOL That show has been on fire last 2 weeks.

Revolution - I read that just a bit ago. Not going to bother. I jsut saw the guy who plays Aaron on something - now don't know what. LOL

Congrats on finished that long project. Three years ! Yikes.

Anonymous said...

Justified--you guys might find this interesting, but in watching the last season, I don't think I missed much from the first as far as the overall story arc. It's been years since I've seen the first season so I forgot a few things, but eventually they came back or I was reminded.

Richard

Anonymous said...

LOL,LOL,LOL MJ on Gotham. Funny how you're comparing this show to the real world. Reminds me of how I think about Shield--lol. And why I quit watching a few other shows. They can be totally ludicrus. But fun sometimes.

I have to keep reminding myself that they are comic book shows.

You should give Scorpion another try with it's finale.

MJ, you watching Madmen?

Richard

Mike V. said...

Justified - Interesting tidbit with the hat. Oh yeah, definitely he was making sure Ava was protected in the end...but I think there was a bit of honesty to what Raylan said in the end too.

Richard, from a start/finish aspect you are possibly right...but there was a cumulative feel to this final season also. Harlan was a very lived in universe with some pretty dynamic characters introduced over the series...a lot of them were brought back over this final season. And if you don't go back and watch yourself some Season 2, you're missing out on some amazing television. The show was great, but season 2 was far and above the best. That girl that was hanging around all final season (and even in the car with Boone at the end)...was a major player in season 2.

Revolution -yeah I don't think i'm going to watch either. I don't even remember where the show left off! lol

Bates - Okay..i'll put it next on my list!

Thanks on the congrats! It was a pretty big effort...and the crazy thing is it was a "stretch" objective from my main job. lol Didn't feel like a stretch!

Richard, I don't think MJ ever got into Mad Men. Leslie watches. I should be able to comment more on the future episodes now that I'm returning a bit to normal.

Leslie said...

Mad Men - I'm watching, just haven't ha time to comment. This doesn't feel like an ending is coming. Couldn't believe Megan's mother took all of Don's stuff! I suspect Megan will set that right especially after receiving the million bucks!

Bates - Wow! Each week I just keep saying who is crazier with those two! Both Freddie and Vera are GREAT in these roles! Need to read the interview that MJ shared.

When the girlfriend stayed over, I thought she may be in trouble since Norman was in that state. Then, the look on Norman's face at the end when Norma and her brother are embracing made me think he is next to go.

The whole thing with the sheriff getting shot and then shooting that guy in the car was crazy!

That scene in the kitchen was eerie! Just like in the movie when he dressed up as his mother! Also, when Norma was running away, bought some clothes and traded her car and went to the motel....that all made me wonder if that was a throwback to the movie when Janet Leigh did the same thing when she is running away and ended up at Bates Motel.

Mike V. said...

Mad Men - yeah but clearly Don isn't hurting for money, so he probably won't worry about it. Definitely doesn't feel like an end. But, it may not really ever. It's not like there is really an end game the show really needs to get to. It's just another day in the life of the office work place. Another day in the life of Don falling for a brunette that won't satisfy him. lol I listened to a podcast today where someone thinks it HAS to end with Don jumping out the window (to mimic the opening credits)...but most people disagreed with that opinion. (There have been lots of metaphors of looking down empty elevator shafts over the seasons too)

They've still been entertaining episodes as far as I'm concerned!

Anonymous said...

Madmen--well I'm glad that we all seem to see the eps so far as just kind of going day to day. Mike, you could be right that there doesn't need to be an ending as in people must die or some cathartic event. But after all these seasons it would be better if the series ended with some type of capstone for Don. Maybe he gets married, back with a blonde or my hope--Betty--lol.

But that's not necessary as much as him learning to find happiness from within, not needing the external female approval he continuously searches for. He could also commit suicide realizing his pursuit as conducted is fruitless long term. Or someone could kill him for anyone of a number of reasons, even senseless ones.

Star Wars - FYI - There should be a new trailer premiered around 1pm eastern time today. Of course, I'll be in a meeting!!! arrrgghh!

TWD:
http://entertainthis.usatoday.com/2015/04/15/walking-dead-robert-kirkman-season-6-rick-morgan-glenn/

Shield - was a little sad about May and that creepy little girl. What did Skye's mom say in that voice over at dinner? Can't remember now but it was weird.

Madmen - no I never did watch that one beyond the pilot.

Gotham - I didn't feel I was comparing it to a real world. Even in a comic book it's ridiculous for a kid to go looking for a professional soldier cause he's gotten a few fighting lessons. That is silly on any show. Remember - I am not a huge comics fan ;-D

Bates - a reviewer has been saying for weeks that it seems that the are purposely having Emma see and notice everything that is going on with Norma and Norman. But Emma and Dylan shared quite the intimate look then ! Forgot that Janet Leigh bought new clothes ! Been a long time since I've seen it. I was amused how the clothes Norma bought were quite different then they type we see her in normally.

VIKINGS, VIKINGS, VIKINGS tonight. Paris better watch out.

As you guys know, I love this show. I think this ep like the last ep will have significant future implications.

Richard

Mike V. said...

Still so behind! I don't even know when I'll catch up on Vikings. lol

In case anyone still hasn't seen the star wars trailer:

youtube.com/starwars should get you there!

We're home indeed!

Great trailer. Still have the XWing fighters and Falcon.

I used to fly helos over water and watch it pull a wake(actually blow one) and that shot with the XWing fighters flying low over the water reminded me of some good times!!

Richard

Vikings--wow again. We really get the feeling Ragnar is not long for this world. And he's had visions of the next worlds.

So Rollo is the bear. I wonder if he'll wear a crown while he's still alive.

And where's the trickster clever vs Lagertha.

So Aethelwolf asking his father about being willing to sacrifice him was a shocker at how much the Prince has learned and grown. Ecbert is so scummy in this ep. Judith's not really any better.

Did you notice how they had a scene with little Ivar. I hope we get to see him as a man.

I am not sure how much I would like Vikings without Ragnar?

Richard

MJ said...

Star Wars - yeah saw the trailer. Here's a couple of articles - tho you have probably read them already

MJ said...

Vikings - as you know I've been recording and holding them - did not realize that finale is next week !

Anonymous said...

MJ, I will likely have forgotten some things about the eps when you watch. Watching them as a marathon could be awesome. I kind of have to let each ep sink in a little bit since so much is there.

This season is in many ways the best and most shocking.

I truly believe this is the best show on TV. It has a lot in common with GoT. I think that kind of started with the ravens.

Richard

Mike V. said...

Vikings - Well, it probably got greenlit BECAUSE of Game of Thrones. I definitely enjoy the show but I can't make that declaration of it being the best thing on TV. lol If it was for me, I'd be caught up! But I am looking forward to catching up. I'll be marathoning with MJ it looks.

Star Wars - Yep, I was following tweets in real time when I was in a meeting and saw those links when I got to my desk. Exciting times! Loved the x-wings/tie fighters and falcon shots but we saw all of that in the first trailer. This one had HAN FREAKIN SOLO!!! And he looked good!!! They got the hair right. I was thinking he was going to look like Harrison Ford in a Star Wars movie, but he looked like Han. lol The Luke voiceover was slightly different than the one he said to Leia in Jedi, so lots of speculation going on there. We heard Luke's lightsaber at the end of the first trailer...and i think we see it being found by Rey (the new girl) in this preview. She lives on Jakku as a scavenger....so my bet is she finds Luke's old saber that he lost on BESPIN during his fight with Vader (when his hand got chopped off). And of course, that saber was actually Anakin Skywalkers that he loses on Mustafar during his battle with Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan picks it up after their fight and gives it to Luke in A New Hope. Good times!! ;-)

More info than anyone wants to know but I liked writing it!

Bates - Watched 3rd to most recent episode and started the 2nd to most recent. I'm working from home today so I"ll try to catch up.

Scandal - I was falling asleep during the episode but definitely caught the end. wow.

Anonymous said...

SW--So is Rey going to be the new Luke if you will?

Richard

Mike V. said...

SW - That's the popular theory. The 3 main characters were introduced at celebration with a little bio.

Rey - Scavanger on Jakku
Finn - Stormtrooper who is in peril.
Poe Daemeron - X-wing pilot (the best damn pilot in the galaxy according to Oscar Isaac lol) who comes across Finn and their lives are intertwined forever after.

I'm sure somehow they'll get tied into an adventure that will put them in contact with the old guard. Well Oscar said Poe is actually on a mission from a Princess. lol I know a little speculation on the movie so I don't want to say TOO much in case it's true.

For the record..this new droid B-88 is going to be a huge star. It's already got massive appeal. They actually created the droid instead of CGI ing it so the actors would be able to respond to it. And it actually rolls on that giant beach ball of a wheel. It's pretty awesome! R2 and B-88 were having a conversation on stage and it was hysterical. lol

MJ said...

SW - huh ! I was likening Rey to the new Leia or Amedala - tho not cause she's a woman. Felt like the pilot was the new Luke and Finn will be sorta the Han-like side kick. I know he's a stormtrooper but I don't think he's a bad guy. I feel like he's in peril cause he's not doing what he was told. LOL But who knows.

Scandal - did not watch last night but already know someone dies cause read that by accident. Don't know who though.

Mike V. said...

SW - Yeah, I'm sure they'll mix up what their roles are but will keep similar archetypes to the original trilogy because they were fun and "had heart" per JJ's own words. But I'm thinking Rey will be the "jedi" in training. Just a hunch. And yeah, no way Finn is a bad guy. They said they're going to have fun revealing all of the other characters from now until December. We still assume Adam Driver is playing Kylo Ren (the masked dude with the red hilted lightsaber) and he apparently looks a lot like Darth Revan from the XBOX game Knights of the Old Republic. I never played and it's not considered canon but I'm sure the appearance is no coincidence.

We have to assume Han and Leia AND/OR Luke had children....but if Rey is one of their children (before we knew anything we assumed because she looked so much like Natalie Portman and Carrie Fischer that she would be a Skywalker descendant) there's no telling why she wouldn't be with them at the start of the movie...or possibly even know she's their daughter. lol

Lots of gaps to fill in for 30 years since Jedi...(and I read there will be books/graphic novels that will be released before the movie is released to fill in some of those gaps).....there was a whole expanded universe of novels, but they've been classified as NOT CANON but STAR WARS: LEGENDS instead. Everything going forward will be considered canon on all media fronts...similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Exciting stuff!

Scandal - not saying a word!

Anonymous said...

SW, Yea I think the star will be a girl. There was some criticism of this last time.

Richard

Mike V. said...

SW - Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said there are a lot of female centric Star Wars features coming. Even some of the "spinoff movies" will feature women. But yeah back in the day it was Leia and a handful of nobodies like Mon Mothma and Jabba's servant girl BEFORE Leia. lol Prequels didn't change that much.

Already with Star Wars Rebels it has changed. And there are lots of women cast in Force Awakens that haven't even been revealed who they're playing yet. i.e. Brienne from Game of Thrones and Lupita Nyongo (Some thing she might be Asajj Ventress from Clone Wars...but she'd be a lot older now!! lol)

Anonymous said...

SW, wait a minute. Padme was a HUGE star. How can that not count.

I really don't like casting a female or male for that matter for political correctness. I hope they don't go overboard. I find that Shield is too much that and it led to yet another with the spinoff Agent Carter.

I really think this is a problem with Hollywood. Just look at the Wonder Woman film problems. Several have said that if a man became the director there would be protests. That's crazy.

When things are forced it usually ends up feeling that way.

BTW, Leia was a very STRONG woman and had the force. I thought sometimes she went overboard with how she addressed Chewbacca in a very negative way among other things. But that's what they did to make her look strong. Being rude doesn't make you strong.

Richard

Mike V. said...

Sw can't respond too long right now. My point was padme was 1 woman in a mostly all boys club. Same as original trilogy.

Mike V. said...

I still don't have time to speak to political correctness of Hollywood right now but I did want to say that Michelle maclaren (so) earned her right to direct Wonder Woman on her impressive resume. She directed some of the best episodes of breaking bad and even did some work on game of thrones. I'm sure she got that specific gig because she was a woman though so I'll agree to that. But Wonder Woman had had a host of issues in getting on screen. Coincidentally the girl playing Bobbi on shield filmed a Wonder Woman pilot for nbc that famously was cancelled before it could air. People hated the costume and many must've thought the show was a trainwreck.

Anyway I think he point with Star Wars isn't about pc (though I'm sure that's some of it). It's acknowledging that there are more females in the sw universe and also catering to the female Star Wars fans that are most certainly out there. Kennedy even says she has 2 daughters and they are providing their requests. Lol

Mike V. said...

Bates - I did as ordered and caught up! Good stuff. I read all your comments and will try to respond later but you know how it is. Lol can't remember if mother was dead in paycho but sounds familiar. Totally didn't realize that was opie from soa!! And I think I forgot Caleb was on there too. Don't remember if they were on show together. Now I have to decide Americans or Vikings. :-)

Anonymous said...

I had a thought on SW. How about female clone storm troopers?

Part of me wonders if there would be a backlash with their ineptness--lol.

I don't mean to make this a pc blog of course, it's just an observation that started when I read that the WonderWoman movie has had so much controversy and some say that's because of pc stuff. But, I don't know obviously. I would imagine a good WW movie could be a huge draw.

Richard
